Calphalon Pans and Pots Demystified
Calphalon cookware has a lot of excellent products. Chances are you probably already have some in your home. Overall they are well made, easy to care for and have made quality pots and pans available at prices anyone can afford.
But, buying Calphalon cookware can be very confusing. The company has many lines and options from Classic to Contemporary. They can be stainless or aluminum and can have no less than three different non-stick coatings or not at all. So our goal is to review the full Calphalon cookware lines, explain the benefits of each and give some examples of cookware sets that are worth your money
Calphalon Premier is one of our favorites. It comes in both nonstick and stainless steel. The hard, tri-layered anodized nonstick surface is ok to use with metal utensils. See the Anodized section of the article at the bottom for what that means. The nonstick is dishwasher safe. They are also oven safe to 450 degrees and they are compatible with gas, electric, and glass top ranges
The Calphalon premier 11-piece hard anodized space saving cookware set earns an especially high “Strong Buy.” Recommendation. The Calphalon Premier Space Saving is a good feature if you think you want to conserve cabinet space.
The stainless steel comes in an 8 piece set, 8/10 combo, 11 piece set and 13 piece set. The 8/10 combo is just the 8″ Fry pan 10″ fry pan, both of which are excellent.

Calphalon contemporary is nonstick cookware with a modern look. Unlike, other cookware lines, the contemporary is multi-clad layers with an aluminum core that extends to all the sides of the pan or pot. Aluminum is a better conductor of heat than stainless steel. You will notice this construction makes it heavier than some other lines. The contemporary has a PTFE based nonstick surface. The surface is stronger because of the heavy gauge, hard anodized aluminum. Calphalon contemporary is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

Calphalon contemporary nonstick cookware will conduct heat faster and more evenly than some others and its heavy, gauge construction will retain heat longer than the lighter gauge cookware.
The Calphalon Tri-Ply line is very distinct from the others. It comes in stainless or with the gorgeous brushed copper outer layer you see below. Underneath the mainly decorative shell the Tri-Ply is a heavy-gauge aluminum core between a layer of stainless steel and a layer of copper. Most Calphalon cookware comes with the long stainless steel handles which will stay cool on your stovetop cooking. This Calphalon cookware set needs to be hand washed but is oven and broiler safe and comes with a full, lifetime warranty.
Calphalon Tri-Ply Brushed Copper T10 10-Piece Set
The Calphalon Tri-Ply 10 piece set is really great. This is one of the Calphalon cookware sets that has some special care requirements but comes with everything you need for great cooking.

- 2.5-qt. Sauce Pan with cover

The stainless steel Tri-Ply has two layers of stainless steel, with one replacing the copper. It should conduct heat less well than the copper version but probably not a lot less.
No Boil Over Inserts
Withmany of the Calphalon cookware sets, you can get these with the no boil over inserts that prevent liquids from boiling over. The inserts are BPA-free, dishwasher safe silicon and they recirculate the water to reduce boiling over. They don’t affect the cooking times and actually allow you to heat the water higher. You also can stir and season through an opening in the middle.
Calphalon Cookware Nonstick Surface Options
Calphalon Cookware can come without the non-stick surface or with any one of three different non-stick surfaces. You can cook with the nonstick on gas, electric, glass, and halogen stovetops. But, they are hand wash only. The classic nonstick pans and pots are oven safe to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Within the classic line the nonstick surface can be ceramic, oil-infused ceramic and dual layer PTFE.

In each case the pieces are shaped to fit inside each other for storage and they really take up a lot less space. Shown here is a 15 piece set, which would take up a few full cabinets without the space saving design.

What is Calphalon Cookware Anodized Aluminum?
Aluminum is a relatively soft metal. So, the purpose of anodizing is to form a layer of aluminum oxide on your cookware. This layer makes it much harder so it doesn’t scratch easily. Any Anodized Calphalon Cookware also resists corrosion and is an excellent conductor of heat. The regular nonstick cookware is not compatible with induction stovetops.
