2020 JURA 15148 Model Review
The JURA A1 15148 model is a great machine for the espresso purist and minimalist in your life. Our JURA A1 review concludes that probably no other machine offers better espresso at this price range. But that means that for the JURA A1 to be for you, you will want to sacrifice the programmability, features and milk handling that more expensive JURA espresso machines and some competitors offer.
JURA is one of the top-rated brands reviewed by The Coffee Insider. The higher-priced cousins of the JURA A1 won three slots on our 20 Best Espresso Makers of 2020 list. THe A1 wouldn’t qualify for that list because it isn’t a super automatic and has no milk system.
However, JURA combines fantastic espresso brewing with great design. If you want to keep to a budget of staying (well) under $1000 then our JURA A1 review argues that is a great option.
JURA A1 15148 Espresso Brewing
The JURA A1 espresso maker brews really well for the price. It has their excellent Aroma coffee grinder and a single Thermoblock that heats up reasonably quickly. The pump produces 15 bars of pressure and the espresso has a nice crema. It isn’t as viscous and doesn’t have the mouth feel of their top of the line models.
No Milk – Just Espresso for Espresso Purists
The JURA A1 comes with programs for coffee, espresso and ristretto. However, the JURA A1 coffee option is really just an Americano. It doesn’t not have a drip coffee option. Also, because it doesn’t have a milk system this means no cappuccinos, lattes or macchiato mattes. So, this really is great espresso for the espresso purist.
This JURA 15148 model comes with some basic programmability. It is enough for most people but much less than in the higher end JURA espresso machines or many competitors at this price. In addition to the three programmable drinks, you can adjust the coffee strength levels.
JURA A1 Espresso Machine vs The Competition
The JURA A1 packs a lot of great JURA technology into an inexpensive espresso maker. It is smaller and cheaper than a JURA E6, which is much better, but the A1 is still a good value. The only espresso maker we think you would prefer to buy at this price level, assuming it is available where you live, might be a Gaggia Cadorna Plus. The A1 costs a bit less than the also amazing Gaggia Anima Prestige and that is probably the most comparably high-quality machine out there dollar for dollar.
Our JURA A1 review finds that it is priced at similar levels as several Breville and Delonghi automatic espresso machines. But those are feature rich and have milk systems. The A1 is significantly better at espresso than the DeLonghi ESAM 04.110.S Magnifica or the Breville Barista Pro BES878BSS1BUS1. Both of which are comparably priced to the JURA A1.
JURA A1 Capacity
The full JURA A1 15148 specifications are below. This is a small, sleek machine. It measures 17.5″ x 9.5″ x 12.75″. It has a 37-ounce water capacity and holds 4.4 ounces of whole coffee beans. It also will hold 9 pucks of spent coffee grounds. This is all pretty low but not bad for a machine that is small and sleek like the JURA A1.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Too many JURA A1 reviews don’t look at the maintainability of the machine. The JURA A1 is easy to clean, with excellent access to the parts you need to clean. It also comes with a CLEARYL Blue filter which can be replaced cheaply and easily. The A1 15148 has a self-cleaning option. It reminds every 180 preparations or 80 times you turn the machine on and rinses the brewing system.
